Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held a comprehensive review meeting to finalize the preparations for the Gangasagar Mela 2024, set to take place from 8th January to 15th January. The CM announced an extensive list of measures, including new infrastructure, safety arrangements, and cultural enhancements, to ensure a seamless and secure experience for millions of pilgrims.
One of the major highlights was the announcement of the Gangasagar Setu, a 5-kilometer-long, four-lane bridge over the Muri Ganga River, to improve connectivity to the pilgrimage site. This bridge will cost ₹1,500 crores and take four years to complete. Emphasizing the bridge's significance, Mamata Banerjee stated that the state government would bear the entire cost.
CM Banerjee reiterated her demand that the Gangasagar Mela be recognized at par with the Kumbh Mela, a national fair. She announced plans to write to the central government regarding this issue, expressing concerns about discrimination and urging equitable treatment for the Gangasagar Mela.

The iconic Ganga Aarti will be held on the 11th, 12th, and 13th of January, with arrangements for live screening across the mela grounds. A photo booth, health check centers, and certificates for participation will also be available.
BSNL has been tasked with ensuring uninterrupted telecommunication and internet connectivity. Four 4G towers will be installed to handle the influx of users, along with satellite phones and HAM radios for emergency communication.
